anniversary and birthday weekend recap

Every year, the weekend around April 24 and 25 is always a fun one. We get to celebrate our anniversary and my birthday together. It's the best.

This year we celebrated 9 years of marriage and my birthday, but I won't tell you which one. On Thursday, my mom brought over a giant birthday cupcake and a gift for me on her way home from work. Isaac was SO excited to eat it, but we told him he had to wait until daddy got home. The second Ben walked in the door he ran to the refrigerator to get it. We put a candle on it and they sang "Happy Birthday" to me. For dinner that night we went to Smashburger; my request.

The whole week Ben had been telling me to pump so we could do something on Saturday. He said I needed enough milk to leave the baby for 24 hours. side note: do you know how hard it is to pump enough milk for 24 hours in a single week when you hardly ever, ever pump? He had planned a complete surprise and I actually had no idea what it was.

Saturday morning we loaded up the car, dropped the kids off at Ben's aunt and uncle's house (where 2 boys would be watched by a total of 8 people while we were away). We headed out, kid-free, for the next almost 24 hours. First we hit up a food truck festival for lunch. Then we headed over to check into our hotel.

We spent the day at the pool, reading, relaxing and eating. We had dinner at the Elephant Bar and walked around the shops nearby. Then stopped for frozen yogurt on the way back to the hotel. We had drinks at the hotel bar and toasted to our 9 years. We slept all night without keeping an ear out for the kids and woke up rested. About 8:30, we headed over to pick them up and head home. When we got home, my birthday gift was waiting for me, a Nutribullet! People, I am so excited about this thing, I can't even tell you!

Later that day we took the boys to the pool because there were signs all over the mailbox that the pool is now open and heated! Yay! It was Eli's first time. He didn't have much of a reaction either way. Just too stinkin' cute in his bathing suit. I was really hoping to get him in it before he grew out of it. He just won't slow down! And thankfully (because it's going to be 100 degrees on Monday), it still fits and probably will for couple more months.

That night we went to my parents' house for dinner and dessert. My dad grilled hamburgers and we spent the evening with my family. I got to open a few more presents and eat a cupcake and ice cream.

It was definitely a busy and fun weekend of celebration. I'm so thankful for my husband and both of our families.
