vlog: girl behind the blog anniversary

Isaac joined my for the vlog today. He's super cute, so enjoy that ;)

Also, I announced on twitter last week that I'd be launching my online store today. Yikes! I'm working hard to get it up and going. If not today, tomorrow. So be sure to check back for that giant announcement.

toddler chores

We have been having Isaac do "chores" since he could walk. While he wasn't independent enough early on to do anything substantial, it was more about instilling the idea of cleaning and helping around the house than it was about him getting something done. Now at age 2, there still aren't a whole lot of things he can do well, but that doesn't stop me from teaching him. Over time, he will learn to master each chore.

Some of our toddler chores around the house include:
*unloading the dishwasher
*carrying clothes from the laundry to his room
*picking up toys when he is done playing with them
*cleaning the bathroom
*helping with the laundry
He also helps by throwing away trash that has been left around the house, sometimes putting his clothes in their drawers and he loves to sweep and swiffer (although he just moves dirt around, but that's okay with me! because he's still learning to help.)

Some tips when teaching your young ones chores and how to help:

*When having them unload the dishwasher, be sure you remove all knives and anything you don't want broken first. We started teaching this chore to Isaac by having him hand me silverware one by one. Yes, it takes longer, but like I said, it's not about getting it done, it's about having them learn and getting in involved. Now that he's a little older, he names each item as he hands it to me and describes what it is used for in the kitchen. For example, he will hand me the spatula (which he can't quite say yet) and he'll says "cakes" and pretend to flip pancakes.

*For cleaning the bathroom, again, there isn't a whole lot he can do. However, he loves that toilet brush so I put a little comet in the toilet and let him go for it. In the mean time, I wipe down the mirrors and counters. Be sure to have them wash their hands when they are done.

*Laundry is Isaac's favorite chore to help out with. When I move clothes from the washer to the dryer, I have him open the dryer door and I set the wet clothes on it. He pushes them into the dryer. Then he closes the door and I lift him up to push the button to turn it on. Then I put dirty clothes into the washing machine and turn the dial. I lift him up and let him pour the detergent in and pull the knob to turn on the water. He gets to close the lid. Last he turns off the light and closes the doors. He gets so excited when he hears the buzzer on the dryer and knows it's time to do the laundry!

keeping up to date with 2013 Project Life

After getting pregnant with Eli last year, I got a little bit behind on my 2012 Project Life album. Mostly because I was so tired and sick during my first trimester. So, slowly I've been working on getting that album up to date and done.

In the mean time, I'm determined to stay up to date on my 2013 album.

This year I'm doing my weeks from Monday-Sunday (last year they were Sunday-Saturday).

Here is the cover page:
A photo of Ben and I on Christmas day. Family photo at Mt Charleston. A photo of the Vegas valley that I took on our way to church one morning. And then just some other random paper pieces.

Week one:

One thing I've decided to do this year is to incorporate the portrait a week project into my weekly spreads. Each week of the year I take a portrait of each of the boys to include in the album. Eli's photos are always in the top right and Isaac's are in the bottom right. I'm so excited to flip through all 52 weeks and all 52 portraits at the end of the year!:

Here are a couple other weeks from the year so far:

I just love Project Life. It's a great way to record everything that is going on in our every day lives, especially with a newborn around. I have a place to record when he began sleeping through the night, when he rolled from front to back, when I left him with Ben and a bottle for the first time, etc. There are so many things with Isaac that I wish I had written down, but didn't have a place.

Haven't heard of Project Life? Get the basics here. See my other pages and albums here.

friday silliness

ABC's of Me. borrowed from michelle

[A] Age: I just drew a total blank. 27, yeah, 27.

[B] Bed size: Queen. When we first got married we slept on a full for years. Then we decided that was ricidulous and upgraded. I'm ready for a King.

[C] Chore you hate: Floors. Because it requires me to pick up everything else first. And that rarely happens. I just can't clean floors until everything else is clean.

[D] Dogs: Nope. We have decided we are not animal people, period.

[E] Essential start to your day: Baby kisses.

[F] Favorite color: Hmm. I've never really had a preference for any color.

[G] Gold or silver: Usually silver. But I don't hate gold.

[H] Height: 5'7''. The shortest in my family.

[I] Instruments you play: The piano. Well, used to play. I haven't had my piano in 9 years. One day we'll have the money and space to move it into our home. I can't wait for that day. I've been dreaming about it for, well, 9 years.

[J] Job title: Homemaker. Trophy Wife. Mother. Home Manager. take your pick

[K] Kids: 2 very handsome boys. And SO ready for more!

[L] Live: Las Vegas.

[M] Married: Check. 9 years in April.

[N] Nicknames: Jessi. Yeah, that's exciting, huh?

[O] Overnight hospital stays: Hate them. Hate, hate, hate them. Had to stay overnight with both boys. Here's to hoping eventually we'll be able to have a successful homebirth!!

[P] Pet peeve: Slow traffic in the left lane.

[Q] Quote:

"Money never stays with me. It would burn me if it did. I throw it out of my hands as soon as possible, lest it should find its way into my heart." ~John Wesley

"It's a moo point.. like a cow's opinion, it doesn't matter... it's moo" ~Joey Tribiani

[R] Righty or Lefty: Right, but I married a lefty.

[S] Siblings: 2 brothers. 1 sister.

[T] Time you wake up: I try for 7. Ugh, that's early. Eli is pretty good at sleeping until 7, altho today he woke up a little early.

[U] University attended: UNLV (University of Nevada, Las Vegas). It was really the only option. I got into SDSU and George Washington, which I was dyyyyyying to go to. But I guess my parents couldn't justify $40,000 a year. And I'm thankful for that now!

[V] Vegetables you dislike: Not a huge carrot fan. Celery grosses me out unless it's really really cooked, like in soup. But even then I don't really like eating it.

[W] What makes you run late: 2 children.

[X] X-rays you've had: Teeth. My foot. I think that's it?

[Y] Yummy food: Peanut butter, any kind of fruit, spinach and artichoke pizza from BJ's

[Z] Zoo animal favorite: Penguins
