you ask, i answer: answers!

I should be picking up, cleaning and organizing my house right now (seeing as we just moved in), but alas, I'm avoiding it by blogging.

Your questions, answered:

I'm a new blog follower. Is your husband still in the military?

My husband is not in the military anymore. His 2nd contract just ended this past April. He was in for a total of 8 years and we just felt it was time to call it quits and move on. You can read more of the story here and here.

I have one! Why did you stop blogging at your "beautiful feet" blog? I really loved your posts...they were thought provoking and full of God's word. Why did you decide to stop doing that?

The honest answer is: time. I just don't have enough of it anymore. I loved writing posts for that blog. That's actually why I started blogging. But, a lot of what I wrote about I had to do research for and it just became too time consuming once I had the little one. I hope to eventually start writing on it again. For now, you can read similar posts and some recycled ones from that blog in the my thoughts segment on this blog. In the mean time, if there is an issue, topic or Bible passage that you would like to see me blog about, please email me about it!

What's different now about being a mom vs. a few months ago? In what ways have you grown into it? What modifications to your schedule have you had to make?

Oh my goodness.. everything! For one, I cannot afford to be selfish, like at all. Before I had Isaac I was a stay at home wife. I didn't work and so I had so much time to myself while Ben was at work. Of course some of that time was spent keeping the home picked up and making dinner, but a huge chunk of my day was me-time. Not anymore! Now I have to be very intentional about me-time. That means reading during a nap here and there. Going to Bible study once a week and lining up a babysitter if I need it. It means asking my husband to get up with him when I need just another hour of sleep.

As far as growing into it, it was hard. We were married almost 7 years before we had this little tyke. In a lot of areas we were set in our ways. I would have loved to have kids earlier, but that wasn't God's plan. Now I have to rely on Him to make me more flexible and re-shape me. So far it's been an amazing learning experience and I wouldn't change enything.

Number one change in my schedule: I don't get to sleep until 9am anymore! I was so set in my sleep schedule before Isaac came along. We used to go to bed at 10 every night because Ben got up early and I could always sleep in. Now we stay up late because it's the only time we get alone and I get up early for obvious reasons.

How do you stay in such good shape as a momma?

This is where you all un-friend me. I breastfeed and rely on my metabolism. I've always been naturally skinny.. just the genes I was given. I thought for sure after I had the baby things would change and I'd have to start working out to stay in shape. But to my surprise (and delight), I lost all 50 lbs of baby weight without any workout schedule or diet plan.

I think what helps though is that I eat pretty well and I stay active in just my everyday life. One rule of thumb I have is that snack food has to be prepared. If I can just grab and eat, it's probably not good for me. If I have to work to eat it, then I'll think twice about if I really need it and if I do, then it's probably better for me.

Can you recommend and good thrift shops in the Oceanside, Vista, Fallbrook area?

Yes! My favorites are:
Potpourri Thrift and Resale (PCH)
DAV Veteran's Thrift Store (PCH)
Assistance League North Coast Thrift Shop (Oceanside BLVD)
Garment Gourmet (Vista)
Catholic Charities Shopportunity (Vista)
There is a huge shopping center in Poway with like 8 different stores.. that is my favorite place to shop. It's on Poway Rd.

... what about Las Vegas, Henderson?

I haven't lived there in so long so I'm sure more have popped up since I left. But my favorites were:
Saver's (Trop and Pecos.. Warm Springs and Stephanie)
Goodwill (Warm Springs and Stephanie)
Salvation Army (Warm Springs and Stephanie)
